Hebrews 11:1(NLT) tells us that faith is “the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.” The inevitable truth is that as Christians, we have a tougher time maneuvering throughout life compared to someone who doesn’t believe in the power of Jesus Christ. We have to make the right decisions, listen to the Holy Spirit, and deny the flesh at all costs. However, we have something that non-believers don’t have, faith! We are experts, or rather becoming experts, in learning how to exercise our faith.
Faith is our number one tool in everything that we do. We exercise faith when we get up in the morning, when we go to work, while at work, even when doing recreational activities. Think about it, when you wake up, finish your morning routine, and head out to your car, you’re expecting it to turn on and work properly. Whether indirectly or directly, your faith is kicking in to such a high degree that what you expect to happen actually comes to pass. When you really give this some thought, it’s pretty amazing. We must have this same level of faith when it comes to the really hard stuff in our daily lives as well.
As Christians we sometimes face hardships that others can’t even fathom. We can enter a room and automatically sense a level of darkness, evil, and hatred. This might make a person want to cower in a corner, BUT, we cannot do that. We must face our situations with faith and put on the whole armor of God. Look at Jesus Christ, think about all the miraculous things he did. The things that are written in the bible are only a miniscule amount of the miracles that Jesus performed. Jesus accomplished all those deeds with the power of faith, and he placed that power within us. Through the Holy Spirit that indwells us, we are able to do what Jesus Christ could do, plus more.
Jesus said in John 14:12 (NLT), “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.” As Christians we must always keep this in the forefront of our minds; that our situation is not forever, it’s just a small bump in the road that we will overcome soon.
Through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, you can command something to show up in your circumstances, and if you don’t give up, it will ultimately appear before you. Through faith in God, we can be healed. We can lay hands on the sick and they, too, will recover. If Jesus Christ could do it, we can too, because he told us that it is possible.
Before Jesus Christ ascended to heaven, he stated in John 16:7 (NLT), “But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don't, the Advocate won't come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you.” Jesus Christ didn’t leave us worse off; instead, he left us better off. As Christians we have Jesus Christ inside of us through the Holy Spirit. Because of Christ, we have so much power dwelling inside, and it’s up to us to use it by doing great things through our faith.
