Predictions for the Future

Just about everyone living on the earth is interested in future predictions. We have an innate curiosity not only about what’s going to happen in the future, but we want to know exactly when it will take place. Most of us think that knowing the future would give us more control over outcomes. We tell ourselves that we would be better prepared if we know what’s coming down the pike. If it was possible to go back in time, just about everybody would capitalize on it. We have it in our minds that if we could relive our past with our current knowledge, we could have a blast, because we’d know how things are going to turn out. We cast all our hopes in what the future may bring, and because of this, some of us are desperate for information. We’re seeking the counsel of fortune tellers and psychics, but God warns us against this in His Word. That’s the wrong portal, and you don’t want to be messing with that.

1Peter 1:3(NIV) tells us, “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” Our knowledge of God gives us access to everything we need to live a successful, Godly life. His Word doesn’t leave out anything. Every ounce of information that we need to know about God’s promises, about Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit, and about God’s prophecies are in the Bible. God’s Word is the whole package, and if we look to any other source to give us what only God’s Word can, we are opening the wrong doors and setting ourselves up for devastation and destruction.

The integrity of God’s Word is unmatched, and everything in this universe is held together by the power of His Word. Hebrews 1:3-4(ESV) tells us, “3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.” Jesus Christ is the living Word of God. John 1:4 tells us that he is the Word made flesh. He is the radiance of the glory of God, and he holds the entire universe together through God’s Word.

If we want to know what God is up to in our lives in real time, we need to look at His promises and all that He’s accomplished through Jesus Christ. Our Master Jesus declared in John 10:10 that he came to the earth to make a more than abundant life available to us. This means that God wants us to have good health, to be financially stable, to have fulfilling relationships with others, and to have a very intimate and powerful relationship with Him. If you want to know where God is taking you, that’s it. He wants us to have a good life, but make no mistake, His highest priority is that we grow in Christ and become spiritually mature individuals who know the wisdom of His Word and know Him through His Word.

The problem plaguing some of us believers is that we have grossly underestimated the power of God’s Word and His allegiance and faithfulness to it. The psalmist declared in Psalm 138:2(NKJV), “I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.” God has magnified His Word above His name, and by doing so, He gives us all we need to know about the superiority, power, truth, and infallible nature of what He speaks. Everything beautifully unfolds by the authority of what God says, and everything, from to the tiniest to the greatest detail, that God has told us regarding the present and the future is manifesting before our very eyes. His Word proves itself.

Again, every prophecy spoken by God in His Word has either come to pass already, or it’s going to happen at His appointed time in the future. Through Jesus Christ, our Heavenly Father has already told us everything that we need to know about the future. Matthew 24:3-8(NLT) tells us, “3 Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and said, "Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world?" 4 Jesus told them, "Don't let anyone mislead you, 5 for many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Messiah.' They will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don't panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won't follow immediately. 7 Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. 8 But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.”

Years ago, as teachers and preachers began to place a tremendous focus on the Rapture, the Great Tribulation, and the Second Coming of Christ, people had a very challenging time grasping it. They couldn’t fathom the supernaturally splendorous reality of 1Thessalonians 4:16-17(NLT), “16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. 17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever.” Many people, including some believers, were so dependent and indoctrinated into the world’s systems that the shock of these supernatural occurrences overwhelmed them. They couldn’t imagine a time when the mayhem and chaos of darkness would permeate every organization and system in existence, unveiling corruption on an unprecedented level.

Back then, they couldn’t imagine it, but today we see it in real time. We’re witnessing an unbelievable pace of technological advancement, and with the development of human identification systems, the mark of the beast in the form of implanted computer chips is no longer a foreign concept. It’s here! The signs, the birth pains, that Christ spoke about in Matthew 24:3-8 are increasing, and his direction for us is to open our eyes and keep them open so that we allow ourselves to be blind to the enemy’s devices.

The wisdom of God teaches us not to seek truthful predictions in places that belong to the father of lies. God’s Word is the definitive authority of truth, and we can trust this with our whole hearts. It’s true that these are perilous times, but if we know God’s Word, we won’t be rocked by the things are happening in these last days. We must be confident that God is sharing His glory with us and this should be our greatest focus right now. He has promised to protect and shield us from the coming tribulation, and we should be doing everything we possibly can to increase our faith in this.■
